Hello. I THINK you could call the articles I am posting on Substack “short stories”. I try to post 3-5 pages of some old national novel writing month fiction texts from ~15 years ago every Saturday. Check it out. Enjoy.

also. i'm stealing all these links to read for myself.

I have a section on my stack for my short stories, poems and more personal thoughts (away from the psychology stuff), you can find it here: https://creativecure.substack.com/s/whispered-words?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=menu Most short stories and poems have a slant towards creative women and women in midlife. I’m generally more of a longform writer either, but I don’t put my novels and novelettes on Substack. No worries if it’s not for you though.

A noble endeavor! Substack direly needs an upgrade for its fiction community.

Naomi Kanakia's tales are the best Substack fiction I've read: https://www.woman-of-letters.com/p/index-of-substack-posts . It's a form especially adapted to the scrolling problem you mentioned.

I write short stories on my Substack, ranging from whimsical sci-fi to absurd. Here are two you might like:

- Devolution: https://clutteredpapers.substack.com/p/devolution

- Compounder Kafka and the drowning child: https://clutteredpapers.substack.com/p/compounder-kafka-and-the-drowning

I also enjoy Kanakia’s writings! And I’m looking forward to reading your stories :)

I enjoyed @cameron maxwell’s recent short story on the death and funereal services of a cat…

Thanks, Peter! I’m looking forward to re-reading Prague as well :)

That's a noble endeavour. What kind of stories would you like to read?

Onshore's avatar

I’m a very eclectic reader, so I’m down for anything. At the moment, I’m enjoying the Western Gothic genre (think Blood Meridian and The Power and the Glory), and I’m always down for fictional autobiography (think In Search of Lost Time and The Remains of the Day). In terms of short stories, I’m particularly attached to the ones in Joyce’s Dubliners. And I love Kafka like every other literature student in Germany.

So, I think you might enjoy @Cedar Joneshttps://cedarjones.substack.com/p/lark

@Jörgen Löwenfeldthttps://thebagatelles.substack.com/p/other-kinds-of-intimacy

And @JLG Nogahttps://jlgnoga.substack.com/p/there-is-a-man-playing-the-violin

Okay, great, I'll think about some of my contacts who could fit these genres.

I've been writing, mostly newspaper columns and other essays, for nearly 40 years. Then I won the Wi Writers Assoc Jade Ring prize for a short story, so I started a Substack for stories (and essays). This is the story that won the prize; it evolved from my ten years working with jail inmates (not as a guard). Thanks. This is a very nice idea and I look forward to going through the links people have shared. You’ve probably got too many recommendations, but here are a few stories of my own:

“The Barista” — an old man’s desire for the young woman at his local coffee shop, and how it dies. https://elliotcaldwell2.substack.com/p/the-barista

“Magna Mater” — a portrait of the Madonna devours a young priest, body and soul, in the ecstasy of possession. https://elliotcaldwell2.substack.com/p/magna-mater

“Sister Grace” — a Kikuyu woman suffers a stroke, is changed by a faith healing, and drives her body to its limits and beyond them. https://elliotcaldwell2.substack.com/p/sister-grace

Thank you for sending me your stories! I'm looking forward to reading them :) I do have a lot on the backlog, but I'm not necessarily reading the stories in the order in which I received them. There is actually no system in place at the moment; I just pick randomly.

I just posted my first ever short story here on Substack. Up until now, my content has been writer life-type essays as I'm a published short story and novella writer. I sent this one to subscribers for free and plan to do this again with stories that are 2,000-3,000 words long.

This is a very interesting project! I hope you actually enjoy it, especially the reading aspect of it.

I write short stories here (once a month), so i suppose, I volunteer as tribute?

So far, I have 5 stories I've posted. ignore 'the board' since it was an exercise based on a magazine prompt and is under 500 words. Rest of my stories , I would love for you go pick any title that intrigues you.

I love connecting on here 🤍 I always sub back and I review my subscribers’ work when it lands in my inbox. I also write dark fiction here on Substack, so if that’s your kind of thing you’re very welcome to check it out. If you’re open to connecting, I’d love to support each other.

Onshore's avatar

Sure, I’d be happy to check out your stories :) Do you have a specific recommendation?
